Jerusalem Stone Jerusalem stone is a particular type of limestone quarried from areas around the Holy Land. The stone resembles marble, but is harder than both marble and limestone. The color palette of Jerusalem stone varies from ivory to off-white to warm gold and earthy grays. The patterning and veining of the stone is subtle.

What is limestone and where does it come from

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed from organic materials as ancient plants, marine life and sediments that have settled to the bottom of bodies of water and solidified. Earth movements relocate these rocks to land. Limestone very often has seashells and fossils embedded in its surface.

Limestone is often honed to a matt finish but it can be very unforgiving when it comes to stains and accumulation of grime.
