Granite Countertop Care and Maintenance

Granite is the most popular choice for kitchen and bathroom countertops because of its resistance to staining and scratching. Sealing further protects a countertop by delaying the absorption time of harmful substances. Granite contertops, exposed to normal daily wear, should be resealed annually. Those countertops, exposed to heavy use, may require sealing twice a year as a preventative.

Daily Countertop Care

Wipe up spills immediately using mild dishwashing detergent and water. Always rinse and wipe dry so that soap residue does not dull your granite surface. Never use products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acids. Cleaners such as Mr. Clean, Windex and Fantastic will harm the sealer. Do not use abrasive cleaners or pads on your granite countertop. Use trivets and cutting boards to prevent scratching your granite countertop.

Professional Granite Care

Wolf Granite recommends using products, specially designed for natural stone to clean and polish your countertop. Properly cleaned, granite is less likely to support bacteria than other surfaces.
